Building Concepts

Our design approach to Windermere retreat and residences were a response to the natural
setting, the steep slopes and the weather. There is no building form that could ever compete with or enhance the breathtaking site and nature all around. Our concept was to integrate the
buildings in this natural environment and among the trees and let them be part of it. Buildings were positioned to optimise solar orientation, to access prevailing breezes, and natural lighting.

Materials used for building envelopes emulated the natural colours and feel around. Clear glass large windows draw nature into the internal spaces and allowed them to merge. By integrating the house into the natural slopes we minimized land cut and fill and the risk of future soil erosion.
